Eagle with Transmitter (17 November 2017)
Yesterday I was editing some photos that I took while at the dam on Friday. I briefly posted the photo on a particular Facebook page. A friend mentioned an organization in New Jersey so I did some online reading and contacted a person at the Conserve Wildlife Foundation (CWF). The person emailed me back this morning stating she is sure it's an eagle called Haliae. Haliae is going into her fifth year and she is one of three transmitted eagles from New Jersey (they also have green bands); and she is the only one currently in the Conowingo Dam area of Maryland. "The last recorded date was Nov. 12th, but she was very close to Conowingo Dam." Haliae was banded in 2013 at Merrill Creek Reservoir in northern New Jersey.
I'm very excited that I took these photos. It's rare to see an eagle banded, let alone with a transmitter. The first photo is heavily cropped to show the green band. Also, it looks like her harness is loose. In a few photos you can see it dangling down. The last two photos, she’s with another eagle; and you can see her band on her left leg.
The rest of my photos from this day can be found here: http://www.pileggiphotography.com/Animals/Bald-Eagles-at-Conowingo-Dam-17-Nov-2017/
UPDATE: Here's an article that was published today (6 December 2017) on the eagle: http://www.conservewildlifenj.org/blog/2017/12/06/new-jersey-2017-bald-eagle-project-report/
